Do Not Call List
The Do Not Call (DNC) list prevents your AI agent from calling specific phone numbers. Numbers on this list are automatically skipped during outbound campaigns.
How It Works
Every business has its own DNC list. Before placing an outbound call, Akol checks the number against your DNC list. If the number is found, the call is skipped and the contact is marked accordingly.
DNC Sources
Each entry on the list has a source that indicates how it got there:
| Source | Description |
|---|---|
| Manual | You or a team member added the number manually |
| Opt-out | The person asked to be removed during a call with your AI agent |
| Complaint | The person filed a complaint |
| Import | Imported from a file or external list |
| Regulatory | From an official Do Not Call registry |
Adding Numbers
Single Number
- Go to Dashboard > Business > Do Not Call
- Click Add Number
- Enter the phone number in E.164 format (e.g., +14155552671)
- Optionally add a reason and notes
- Click Add
Bulk Import
Import up to 1,000 numbers at once:
- Go to Dashboard > Business > Do Not Call
- Click Import
- Upload a list of phone numbers
- Numbers are deduplicated — existing entries are skipped
The import result shows how many numbers were added and how many were skipped as duplicates.
Each phone number can only appear once per business. If a number is already on the list, it’s skipped during import.
Managing the List
Search and Filter
- Search by phone number, reason, or notes
- Filter by source (Manual, Opt-out, Complaint, Import, Regulatory)
- Sort by date added (newest or oldest first)
Edit an Entry
You can update the reason and notes for an existing entry. The phone number and source cannot be changed — remove and re-add if needed.
Remove a Number
Remove a number from the DNC list to allow calls to that number again. This action is immediate.
Clear All
Remove all entries from a business’s DNC list. This is a destructive action and cannot be undone.
Clearing the entire DNC list is permanent. Consider exporting the list first if you may need it later.
DNC Statistics

- Total entries — How many numbers are on the list
- By source — Breakdown by Manual, Opt-out, Complaint, Import, and Regulatory
Campaign Integration
The DNC list works with outbound campaigns:
- Before each call, the campaign checks the contact’s number against the DNC list
- If the number is on the list, the contact is skipped
- The contact status is updated to reflect the skip
- If someone asks to opt out during a call, their number is automatically added with the Opt-out source
Tips
- Import regulatory lists — If your region has an official DNC registry, import it to stay compliant
- Honor opt-outs immediately — Akol adds opt-outs automatically during calls, but review them periodically
- Document reasons — Use the reason and notes fields to track why each number was added
- Review regularly — Periodically check if numbers should be removed (e.g., a customer re-engages)
- Export before clearing — Always save a copy before clearing the entire list
