Contacts

Contacts is your centralized directory of every phone number that has interacted with your business through Akol. Contacts are created automatically when calls happen, and you can also add them manually.

How Contacts Work

Every time a call is made or received through Akol, the system automatically creates or updates a contact record for that phone number. This means your contact directory builds itself as your AI agent handles calls.

SourceWhen It’s Created
Inbound CallA new caller reaches your AI agent
Outbound CallYour campaign dials a number
ManualYou add a contact from the dashboard

Contacts are de-duplicated by phone number per business — if the same number calls twice, the existing contact is updated rather than creating a duplicate.

What’s Stored

Each contact record includes:

FieldDescription
Phone NumberThe contact’s phone number (unique per business)
First NameExtracted from calls or added manually
Last NameExtracted from calls or added manually
EmailAdded manually or from integrations
CompanyThe contact’s company or organization
TagsCustom labels for organizing contacts
NotesFree-text notes about the contact
Total CallsNumber of calls with this contact
Last ContactWhen the most recent call happened

When your AI agent extracts a caller’s name during a conversation, it’s automatically saved to the contact record.

Contacts vs Campaign Contacts

Contacts and Campaign Contacts serve different purposes:

ContactsCampaign Contacts
ScopeBusiness-widePer campaign
Created byAutomatic (from calls) or manualManual add or CSV import
PurposeCentral directory of all interactionsTarget list for a specific campaign
EditableYes — name, email, tags, notesLimited to campaign-specific fields

A phone number can appear as a Campaign Contact in multiple campaigns, but will always have a single Contact record per business.
