Contacts
Contacts is your centralized directory of every phone number that has interacted with your business through Akol. Contacts are created automatically when calls happen, and you can also add them manually.
How Contacts Work
Every time a call is made or received through Akol, the system automatically creates or updates a contact record for that phone number. This means your contact directory builds itself as your AI agent handles calls.
| Source | When It’s Created |
|---|---|
| Inbound Call | A new caller reaches your AI agent |
| Outbound Call | Your campaign dials a number |
| Manual | You add a contact from the dashboard |
Contacts are de-duplicated by phone number per business — if the same number calls twice, the existing contact is updated rather than creating a duplicate.
What’s Stored
Each contact record includes:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Phone Number | The contact’s phone number (unique per business) |
| First Name | Extracted from calls or added manually |
| Last Name | Extracted from calls or added manually |
| Added manually or from integrations | |
| Company | The contact’s company or organization |
| Tags | Custom labels for organizing contacts |
| Notes | Free-text notes about the contact |
| Total Calls | Number of calls with this contact |
| Last Contact | When the most recent call happened |
When your AI agent extracts a caller’s name during a conversation, it’s automatically saved to the contact record.
Contacts vs Campaign Contacts
Contacts and Campaign Contacts serve different purposes:
| Contacts | Campaign Contacts | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Business-wide | Per campaign |
| Created by | Automatic (from calls) or manual | Manual add or CSV import |
| Purpose | Central directory of all interactions | Target list for a specific campaign |
| Editable | Yes — name, email, tags, notes | Limited to campaign-specific fields |
A phone number can appear as a Campaign Contact in multiple campaigns, but will always have a single Contact record per business.
