Clio

Connect Clio to automatically log client calls, create contacts, and track billable time in your legal practice management system.

What It Does

  • Creates contacts — New callers are added to Clio as Persons or Companies
  • Logs calls — Every call is recorded as a Communication in Clio
  • Tracks time — Optionally create time entries for billable call time
  • Links to matters — Associate calls with existing Clio matters (cases)
  • Searches contacts — Looks up existing clients by phone or email

How to Connect

Open Integrations

Go to Dashboard > Integrations and find Clio.

Click Connect

Click the Connect button. You’ll be redirected to Clio.

Authorize Access

Sign in to Clio and grant Akol permission to access your contacts, matters, and communications.

You’re Connected

Call data will start syncing to your Clio account.

Clio is designed for law firms. This integration is ideal for automatically logging client calls and tracking potential billable time.

What Happens After a Call

  1. Akol searches Clio for the caller’s phone number
  2. If not found, a new Person is created in Clio
  3. The call is logged as a Communication (phone call type)
  4. Optionally, a time entry is created for billable hours
  5. If a related matter exists, the communication is linked to it

Troubleshooting

Calls Not Appearing in Clio

  1. Check that the integration is connected in Dashboard > Integrations
  2. Clio tokens refresh automatically — if issues persist, reconnect
  3. Verify your Clio plan supports API access

Time Entries Not Created

  1. Make sure the “Create time entries” setting is enabled
  2. Time entries require an associated matter — calls without a linked matter won’t generate time entries

Contact Matching Issues

  1. Clio matches by phone number — ensure consistent formatting
  2. If a caller has multiple numbers, only the calling number is matched

  1. Enable time tracking — Capture billable time automatically for every client call
  2. Link matters — Associate calls with cases so all communications are in one place
  3. Review communications — Check your Clio communications log to verify call data
